Artist statement

I have been proud to call myself an artist all my life. Through high school AP art to graduating with a Fine Arts degree in college. It was during the pandemic though that I stepped into my official role as a mixed media artist. It started with strips of high fashion magazine pages, featuring a particular color scheme, all layered in the same direction. Then I used various kinds of metallic paint and dripped it downward starting at the top of the piece. Through experimentation, I decided to dry the paint with an embossing heat tool. This created bubbles in the paint and “baked it.” From there, I started to add my drawings or paintings of animals, as well as dark or spiritual imagery, to the collages.

My artwork represents the intersection of my modeling background with my love for animals and other favorites. Music, fashion, and pop culture are influences that are frequently referenced. I make art to create self-awareness, invoke spirituality, and to awaken your subconscious. The titles of my artwork come directly from the imagery or indirectly from the artwork’s hidden meaning or theme.

Lately, I have been producing work that is more obscure and distressed, tapping back into my former style where I play with different textures, materials, chemicals, and techniques to create an antiqued look. These works are united with a darker aesthetic.

I would like to think of my work as a representation of my two alter egos: happy, orderly, and colorful versus dark, mysterious, and edgy. Depending on my surroundings, life events, and mood – a piece will eventually manifest. You just never know which side of me you are going to get.
